Once we as humans are inter-related and interdependent, conflicts are unavoidable but are manageable and preventable. Human needs and emotions as factors in conflict are in the minds interaction with feelings and behaviours. Events causing conflicts and how individuals express their feelings will depend on their mindset or perceptions.
We all have beliefs, values and norms by which we interpret developing feelings or thoughts of an event which produces our actions. Prevention therefore must begin from the mind. The mind is the source of character, where feelings are shaped into emotions.
Bitter memories, sudden painful surprises, fears, sense of loss and hostile conversations are all processed by the mind to produce actions that are expressed in conflict. We can pursue affirmation, recognition, inclusion, authority, fairness, power and control without making it a demand.
Our choice of conflict prevention should not be in the absence of conflict situations but on the path of irritations, provocations, embarrassments and lack of fair treatments. Hence my call for you to prevent conflict when it’s about to start.
